I guess the 300kg extra capacity makes all the difference.

I think the towbar weight limit lets the Kadjar down a little bit too at around 75Kg

What you are permitted to tow is a little bit of a minefield as well as I believe those that passed their test, after about 1997, have bigger restrictions where us more established drivers, from the dark ages do not, providing the towing vehicle is capable and within spec.

Out of interest what ruled out the Koleos? It's one we have in the running when we look to replace our car.

It felt a heavier less agile car plus the rear deck space with rear seats up wasn't much greater than the kadjar. The kadjar is just big enough, I would have been up a class for little gain and a lot more expense. It does feel like a big car in comparison. Inline with duracels thoughts, 300 kg equates to it feeling like having a full load of passengers when driving alone.
All this of course is a direct comparison with the kadjar and qashqai, not the next class size up.

I haven't tried the Ford Kuga yet but intend to take a closer look before swap time. The Seat seems very slab sided although the inside looks good but not driven 1, the same goes for the Tiguan

I was offered a very good deal on a brand new Ateca last week, but it's still not heavy enough to give the 85% trailer/car ratio.  This was a pre-reg Excellence (I think) 8 k off list... but the cockpit is sh1te compared with the Kadjar, no feeling of opulence or luxury

What about the brand new Honda CR-V, or perhaps the Mitsubishi Outlander?

Mitsubishi isn't an option on my lease agreement. Honda?, to high revving for a lazy diesel driver like me, as in
