From Daily Telegraph Motoring:

The two main causes of failure are lack of gas (via leaks at the system seals) and component breakdown. Low refrigerant means low lubricant, which is contained in the refrigerant, and this can lead to seals drying out, thus losing even more refrigerant and leading to failure of the compressor. Properly repairing a failed system is a four-figure job.
Older systems used CFC emitting R12 gas. This was outlawed throughout the EC in 2001 and replaced by environmentally friendly R134a by all manufacturers. However, the EC now wants to introduce a new refrigerant: HFO 1234yf and has got into a fight with Mercedes Benz that claims that the new gas is more flammable. Some manufacturers such as Peugeot in the 308 and Nissan in the Note, replaced R134a with this new gas, generally called R1234Y. Unfortunately, as well as being flammable it appears to be more prone to leaking from systems and when it does the high cost of the gas makes a re-gas much more expensive.

You'll like this. My Kadjar is just over 3 years old and the air con has been blowing warm air. I took it to my local service centre - Renault Service Centre - and asked them to look at it. They said 'no'!. I asked why and they told me that they don't do air con for my car. They went on to say that the gas used in my Kadjar is 'different' and they didn't have it because it was too expensive and that they'd need to buy the equipment to re-gas it!! So I asked where to take it and the reply was 'don't know'. After I pushed a bit further the service manager told me to take it back to where I bought it over 50 miles away even though I found out later (too late) that a couple of small local garages and a mobile van would have done it for me..
I took it to the Renault garage at Northallerton who told me it should have been checked when it was 2 years old. It hadn't. Also the Northallerton garage did a free complimentary 50 point check on the car and found that it had been over filled with oil by my local stupid idiots. Northallerton also did a free valet where usually, when I get my car back, it's covered in seagull s**t and. with the plastic seat cover and foot-well papers still in it. You live and you learn and you lose trust. On Renault's website for dealers who service air conditioning Universal Garage Whitby is top of the list... I think not.

Had same problem warm air, went to main dealer was told it should have been checked at 2 yr old, but dealer did not. So it’s now 3 yrs old so it’s goes in after service to be told only 10% of gas in system.. They are not able to find and leaks and no damage ... but the cost of £180 is down to me even though it’s under warranty... Total rip off and the air con is still poor, previous Honda crv had it 7 yrs and was way to cold at times... Renault you are a joke ..

Reading through this thread fills me with dread. it sounds like nearly all Kadjars are destined to be airconless in say 5 years or cost four figures to put right if your lucky:angry: and they can find the fault and if they have the gas!

I had the same issue with mine.

The car was only a year and a half old and I noticed the air con was just blowing warm air out (I set it to low I promise) :D

Anyway, when they tested the system, they found pinhole leak in one of the pipes!

Once again, Renault tried to say I caused it but with the list of problems I was having with the car, it didn't take them too long to back down and do it!

Replaced the pipe and a full recharge under warranty!

Worried the same will happen in the next two years though. The dealer told me that they use the same system as the Qashqai and they are having terrible trouble with their air con systems! GREAT! :(

Hello guys, has anyone tried/ attempted successfully or not to find where was the leak in them A/C system, what have they used, was it worth it compared to going to a specialised garage. I just got my very first Renault (a Kadjar of course) and the air conditioning wasn’t working. I would like to know or find out a more in depth info of what you had done to your car when this issue developed to your Kadjar too. With mine am at the early stage of investigation. Don’t know yet if’s still enough oil in the system, neither where it leaks or how much gas has still got left, if… but once i progress and linking to your stories maybe a bigger picture can be created for the future in trouble owners.
