You are right, it isn't always safe to leave the door open, especially when parked-on-the-street (as opposed to a drive)
We have other issues with hands-free-locking, example: when filling-up-with-fuel and a child is in the car (fastened into safety-seat) - walking-away locks the car and risks the alarm going off because sensors detect the child? I'm not keen on leaving-the-car-door-open on the garage forecourt, is there a way round this? Similar issue with a child in the car and returning a shopping-trolley? I never came up with work-arounds, so ended up disabling hands-free-locking.

Not fully open, just not tight closed. If you unlock the car from the button on the card, when away from it (2 m), it would not lock.
1.6 dCI, 2WD, Zen+ , Retractable Tow Bar.
